Welcome the the website of the Foundation for Universal Music Literacy.
-
A hundred years ago, 90 percent of this country did not know how to read and write, now it is considered a birthright. We believe that one of the next steps of human education that can have a profound effect on our social, educational, intellectual and spiritual evolution is universal musical literacy, where everyone can play an instrument and read music as easily and casually as we read and write in everyday life. Not all of us are Shakespeare, yet we all enjoy and benefit from our basic literacy, as does our society as a whole. In the same way, we don't all need to be Mozarts to enjoy making music and receive the benefits to our minds and hearts that playing music can bring.
-
Passively listening to music is great, but actively playing music engages our hearts and minds, body and soul, on a completely different and more profound level, much like the difference between watching others dance and doing it yourself.
-
Our foundation is funded with the mission of finding tools, methods, products and teachers that facilitate and encourage music study and music literacy, as well as the research on the value of music in the development of the human mind, in the individual, and the community.
-
We invite you to share what you may have discovered with us, and what we have discovered with others, and to help us take our planet to the next level.
